In the most of today's vehicles, the construction of ball and socket joints is such thаt greasing is not intended. Those parts are greased by the manufacturer, and are mostly non-serviceable during operation. Unfortunately these days the quality of rubber is not the same as it was during the 70-ties. That is the main reason for the premature replacement of ball joints due to torn rubber cover. Polyurethane ball joint boots and tie rod end boots have a longer life. They are made to replace rubber boots, in cases when the ball joint is still in good working condition. Many customers chose to replace the dust boot when doing maintenance on the ball joint.
